The first installment of reissues from the exceptional House band Ten City.
Many of the early Ibadan releases consisted of edited versions of Ten City tracks by the usual suspects such as Jerome Sydenham and Joe Claussell. This series intends to showcase the Ten City trio in their purest form with the original tracks that made them successful.
'Only Time Will Tell', is a ballad to those microwave romances where it all seems too good to be true and nothing could go wrong. As we all know though, a doubled kick drum romance – no matter how many sumptuous organ melodies are layered over it – can potentially go wrong. That is, however, only something that time can tell.
Bringing a Motown vibe complete with humming background vocals emulating a bass line and finger snaps, give you the feeling, 'All Loved Up' could have debuted on the Ed Sullivan show. A thumping kick drum, layered break beats and phased stick drum fills whip you back into reality while the piano solo carries you away like calgon.
Marshall Jefferson influences come through in a big way on, 'Suspicious. His typical style of swing applied to the high-hats and "that" bass line sound that has become almost as well known as House itself.
A solid collection of Ten City tracks for those who like them just the way they were.
